What is Focusing?
Focusing is a gentle way of contacting inner experience and enabling life to flow more easily. It is something that many of us do naturally from time to time, though we may not know we do it. Whenever you are aware of a vague but insistent gut feeling that something is not OK, or recognise inside you that something else ‘just feels right’, you are beginning to listen to what your body is telling you. Focusing teaches us how to tune in to these subtle and often elusive inner feelings, and to welcome all the many different facets of ourselves. In this way we can live more fully from our deep inner knowing. This can bring about a sense of aliveness and transformation which can touch any aspect of our lives.

How can Focusing be used?

Focusing can be used in almost any area of life, not only personal development. It can be part of the experience of psychotherapy but can also be practised as something in its own right. Once you have learnt it, you can Focus on your own or with any other Focuser.

First weekend
The Focusing Process
This workshop will introduce you to the basic skills needed for Focusing alone and becoming a Focusing companion.

Second weekend

Becoming Companions
As well as exploring the Focusing process in more depth, in this workshop you will begin to develop the listening skills you need as a Focusing companion.

Third weekend
More for the Companion
This workshop will help you to deepen your Focusing, Listening and Partnership skills, using the subtle art of ‘whole body’ listening.

Fourth weekend
Reminders and Suggestions
Sometimes it can be helpful in Focusing to have a reminder or suggestion about what to do next. We will learn how making these suggestions can deepen the process for both Focuser and Companion.

Fifth weekend
Discovering Further
In this last workshop we shall look at Presence and Partiality – our ability to be fully with whatever needs our attention and the biases and no-go areas that can interfere, and which also need attention.

The Venue
The workshops are all currently held at 33 Croftdown Road, Highgate, London NW5
- new dates to be announced.

Workshop Details
The workshops will run from 10am to 5pm on both the Saturday and Sunday. If you attend all five workshops you will receive the British Focusing Teachers’ Association Focusing Skills Certificate. The fee is £80 per workshop. A non-refundable deposit of £20 per workshop (ie £100 in advance for the series) secures a place.
